Latest News @ Ysgol Gwynedd
Last day of term means one thing at Ysgol Gwynedd......whole school service!!! It's a day where Mr Griffiths gathers all pupils and every member of staff in the hall to give thanks for all their hard work.
Mr Griffiths started with the Christmas story and then went on to explain why Christingle services are held in churches and what the significance is of each element of the Christingle. This was followed by Olivia and Lennon who gave bible readings and then everyone joined together to sing the 3 carols; Away in a Manger, Oh Little town of Bethlehem and Starry Night.
At the end Mr Griffiths invited support staff, caretakers, office and kitchen staff with whom the school just cannot run without.
To all pupils, have a wonderful Christmas and remember true fulfilment in life comes from experiencing the most joys, not aquiring the most toys!
Every month in Ysgol Gwynedd seems to be a busy one but December is when all the stops are pulled out in preparation for the Christmas performances. As always, there are 4 different performances put on by the Early Years (Nursery and Reception), Years 1 and 2, Years 3 and 4 and finally Years 5 and 6.
The fortnight festive programme kicked off with a nativity and carol concert perfromed by Years 3 and 4 at St Mary's church. Following that Years 1 and 2 performed their show 'The Owl who was afraid of the dark' in front of packed audiences over two shows. Not to be upstaged, the Early Years also gave morning and afternoon performances of their Christmas sing along which included their very own version of 'The Twelve Days of Christmas'. To wrap up the entertainment, Years 5 and 6 performed 'Olivia - with a twist!' over 2 days displayed wonderful acting and skills in front of two large audiences.
Well done to each and every pupil who has worked so hard in the lead up to their shows - you are a credit to Ysgol Gwynedd and the town of Flint.
On Thursday, 20th November Ysgol Gwynedd hosted the 2014 National Public Health presentation where the Executive Director for Public Health in Wales, Mr Andrew Jones, shared his Annual Report.
Nearly 150 people were in attendance to listen to presentations from key note speakers and also to watch performances from the Ysgol Gwynedd cheerleading and skipping teams. A group of Foundation Phase pupils also demonstrated how important the dental health programme has been to our school by showing off their toothbrushing skills.
Olivia Clarke, a past pupil who now attends Year 7 at St Richard Gwyn, was also in attendance to collect her prize for designing the cover page of this years report. Da iawn Olivia.
Pupils of Ysgol Gwynedd put their pencils down and stopped working in order to observe a 2 minute silence in remembrance of all the fallen heroes.
In addition to this, the Year 5/6 members of the school council were invited down to St Mary's Church where Reverend Harvey led a moment of Remembrance along with the sounding of the last post. On our way back to school the pupils placed their crosses at the foot of the cenotaph.
Thursday, 6th November saw 13 pupils from Ysgol Gwynedd participate in the Fflint and Maelor gala at Holywell Leisure Centre. The event was well attended with over 20 schools participating for both the Year 5/6 and Year 3/4 events. There was some excellent swimming on display and we now wait to hear if any of our swimmers have qualified for the National Gala in Cardiff next January.
Another hard working year comes to an end and it's time to wish several members of our school 'Bon Voyage'. The Year 6 pupils, who have been a credit to themselves this year, will move on to pastures new in September as they embark on a new challenge in their respective High Schools. Thank you for the memories and good luck.
We also say goodbye to Mrs Morris (Year 6 and KS2 Manager) who will start her new role as Deputy Headteacher at Ysgol Y Parc (Llay) and Mrs Parry who will be retiring from her role as Additional Needs teacher. Thank you for your commitment and dedication over the years and we wish you luck on your new adventures.
