Cymraeg

Cymraeg Campus

Cymraeg Campus is a language charter which means to inspire children and young people to use Welsh in all aspects of their lives. We have achieved the Bronze (Efydd), Silver (Arian) and last summer, we successfully achieved our Gold award (Aur).

Criw Cymraeg

Our Criw Cymraeg is amazing at inspiring our Welsh ethos around the school. They actively undertake many responsibilities to ensure Welsh is spoken in and outside the classroom. Their responsibilities are:

  • Leading Welsh services where they award the Siaradwyr yr Wythnos (Speaker of the week), introduce the Ymadrodd yr Wythnos (Phrase of the Week), tell Welsh stories, and celebrate Welsh days like Diwrnod Shwmae. They also lead the Welsh prayer and choose music for the service.
  • Leading Welsh yard games and awarding dojo points towards our Arian Aur awards, so to encourage others to speak with friends on the yard.
  • Meeting together weekly to discuss and work on new projects and targets for the school.

Ymadrodd yr Wythnos/ Phrase of the Week

Every week, we have a new Phrase of the Week to practise that we can use throughout the school day. They are phrases that we can all use in our daily lives.

Pam dysgu Cymraeg? / Why learn Welsh?

The benefits of learning Welsh are:

  • We live in Wales (Cymru) and Welsh (Cymraeg) is our language.
  • Learning (dysgu) another language makes you more creative.
  • Learning another language boosts your brain power.
  • It might help (helpu) you to land your dream job!
  • It helps you make new friends (ffrindiau newydd) and your future best friend (frind gorau) might speak it.
  • It helps us to respect other languages and other cultures.

Clwb Cymraeg

Every week, the pupils have opportunity to attend Welsh club to further practice their language skills. They decide on the activities, as we believe pupil voice is very important. They can choose to paint (peintio),  play games (chwarae gemau),  make puppets and many more activities.
