  • Growing our own

    Thu 15 May 2014 Mr D Hughes

A number of pupils in our Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2 have been busy preparing the raised beds in the garden areas for planting vegetables. Currently, the pupils are growing potatoes, runner beans, and onions whilst also preparing an area to grow tomatoes. We look forward to seeing these grow and being cared for by our school community before being harvested later in the year.

  • Care Home Naming Competition

    Thu 15 May 2014 Mr D Hughes

During the spring term several of our KS2 pupils thought long and hard to think about a name for a new room/area in the Bod Hyfryd nursing home in Flint. The new room will be created with the residents in mind so that they can spend time with eachother reminicsing about their past and remembering moments that were special to them. Lots of the residents in Bod Hyfryd have developed, or are in the early stages of developing, Alzheimers. As I am sure many of us know, Alzheimers affects peoples ability to recall things and often leaves many elderly people upset. The naming competition by Barchester Homes is something that the school were eager to participate in whilst helping the community.

With nearly 200 pupils in KS2 entering the competition and some fantastic imaginative names created, it was down to Mrs Beverely McAuley, who works for Barchester Homes, to announce the winner. Mrs McAuley came to the school during a Headteachers' Award  assembly and presented all the wonderful names that she had recieved before announcing the winner.

The winning name was 'Lavender Lane' and this belonged to Molly White in Year 5 - Da iawn Molly on your success. A plaque with the new name and Molly's name will soon be unveiled in a ceremony in the very near future.
