Our KS2 pupils had a special treat on Thursday evening. For the past few weeks our amazing mid-day supervisors (MDSA's) had been arranging a disco for the pupils to enjoy. Many tickets were sold and a (very energetic!!) DJ was asked to come along to entertain everyone. Pupils enjoyed dressing up in their party clothes, singing karaoke, eating hot dogs and dancing to Gangnam Style on stage. Everybody at Ysgol Gwynedd is indebted to the hard work of the MDSA's who take great care of all our pupils during the lunch hour, ensuring that they are happy and well looked after. The disco was a great way to share this special bond - Diolch!!
The Year 4 pupils spent 3 days on a residential visit at Pentrellyncymer, nr Cerrigydrudion from Wednesday, 19th to Friday 21st March. The pupils had lots of fun participating in many activities including Bushcraft, Problem Solving, Rock Climbing and Orienteering. More photos will be available shortly.
On Friday 21st March children were asked to wear odd socks in support of World Downs Syndrome Day which draws attention to the fact that we are all different and that’s OK. It stimulated discussion within each class through carpet and circle time. This is the 9th anniversary of World Downs Syndrome Day and each year the voice of people with Downs syndrome, and those who live and work with them, grows louder.
Pupil from Ysgol Gwynedd were invited to the opening ceremony of the new residential buildings opposite the school entrance. The new building will house a mixture of small and large apartments and some with disabled access/facilities. The name given to the building is Cwrt Yr Ysgol, due to it's close proximity to our school. Adam, a Year 6 pupil at Ysgol Gwynedd was the 'guest of honour' and carefully cut the ribbon to officially open the building. He was joined by several dignitaries including local Councillor David Cox and the Welsh Assembly Members, Carl Seargeant and Sandy Mewies.
KS2 pupils had a special visitor to their weekly Headteacher's Award this week. Mrs Beverley Macauley visited to invite the pupils of Ysgol Gwynedd to take part in a naming competition for the new nursing home opposite Flint High School. The competition ends in 2 weeks time and then Mrs Macauley will re-visit in a few weeks to announce the winner. We look forward to seeing you again.
