In 2013 Ysgol Gwynedd was awarded the NQA (National Quality Award) for Healthy Schools. Ysgol Gwynedd was one of the founder members of the Flintshire Network of Healthy Schools, joining in 2002.
In order to be entered for the National Award the school had to demonstrate excellence in all of the Healthy Schools indicators, which include food and fitness, safety, environment, hygiene and wellbeing.
NQA assessors spent 2 days at Ysgol Gwynedd, and met with children, including members of the School Council, staff, governors and parents as well as visiting breakfast club, the school canteen and experiencing life on the yard at playtimes!
By achieving the National Quality Award, staff and children of Ysgol Gwynedd have demonstrated that they are firmly committed to an approach which develops the whole school as a health promoting workplace. Ysgol Gwynedd is now one of only 20 schools in the whole of Wales to achieve this prestigious award.
